Bali Airshow Special Dialogue at Bali International Airshow 2024

The Bali International Airshow 2024 is proud to host a series of dialogue sessions that bring together industry leaders, policymakers, and experts to explore the future of aviation and defense. These sessions are designed to foster collaboration, drive innovation, and address the most pressing challenges in the global aerospace industry.

The dialogue sessions are organised in partnership with the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment and the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change (TBI), which has curated a series of panel discussions into two categories, namely the Special Dialogue Program and Special Talk Show Program.

Please note that the sessions are by-invitation only and located within the exhibition hall.

Session 1: Bali Airshow Special Dialogue - Global and Regional Collaboration on Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF)

This session will explore the potential for global and regional collaboration in the development of the Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) industry. It will feature insights from key industry players and government officials, including:

  1. H.E. Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment
  2. Nicke Widyawati, President Director of Pertamina
  3. Tony Fernandes, CEO of AirAsia Group
  4. Anand Stanley, President of Airbus Asia Pacific

Moderator: Jalil Rasheed, Managing Director – Asia Pacific at the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change Indonesia

Discussions will focus on how SAF can play a critical role in achieving net-zero aviation emissions by 2050. The session will address the challenges of scaling up SAF production, Indonesia's initiatives and ambitions within the SAF industry, and the potential for energy cooperation both globally and regionally to overcome these challenges.


Session 2. Bali Airshow Special Dialogue - Guardians of the Sky – Exploring Indonesia's Advancements in Air Defense Industry

This session will delve into the latest developments and key milestones in Indonesia's air defense industry, focusing on modernization efforts and strategic collaborations. It will feature insights from leading defense officials and industry experts, including:

  2. Air Vice Marshal Wayan Superman, Assistant of Planning and Budgeting to the Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Air Force*

  4. Zakir Hamid, Head of Region APAC and China of Airbus Defence and Space
  5. Heidi Grant, Vice President of Global Growth and Engagement, Boeing Defense, Space and Security, at the Boeing Company

Moderator: Damian Hickey, Regional Director – Southeast Asia at the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change

Discussions will explore the Indonesian government's initiatives to enhance air defense capabilities, including the modernization of aircraft and the introduction of the Indonesian Archipelagic Air Defense System (IAADS). The session will also address the challenges Indonesia faces in keeping pace with global advancements in defense technology and the role of domestic production capabilities and regional defense cooperation in bolstering national security.

Session 3. Bali Airshow Special Dialogue - Soaring High – Indonesia’s Ascend to Becoming a Global Leading Aviation Market

Session 4. Bali Airshow Special Dialogue - Fueling the Future – Harnessing Indonesia’s Natural Resource Endowment for Global SAF Feedstock

This session will evaluate the opportunities and challenges associated with utilizing Indonesia’s abundant natural resources, particularly palm oil, for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) production. It will feature insights from key government officials and industry leaders, including:

  1. Jodi Mahardi, Deputy Minister for Maritime Sovereignty and Energy at the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment
  2. Eddy Soeparno, Deputy Chairman of Commission VII of the People's Representative Council of Republic Indonesia
  3. Sofyan Djalil, Founder and Supervisory Board Member of Indonesia Palm Oil Strategic Studies (IPOSS)
  4. Irwan Tirtariyadi, President Director of Sinar Mas Agro Resources and Technology
  5. Dr. Benny Joesoep, Finance & Commercial Director, PT. Tripatra Engineering & Constructors

Discussions will focus on the strategies needed to enhance global acceptance of Indonesia’s feedstocks, particularly palm oil derivatives, and ensure their competitiveness in the global market for SAF. The session will cover the outlook of Indonesia’s palm oil industry, advancements in using palm oil as biofuel feedstocks, and the aspirations of both the government and private sector to position Indonesian palm oil SAF as a key player in the global biofuel market.
